A new and best approach for early detection of rotor and stator faults in induction motors coupled to variable loads

Abderrahim ALLAL,Boukhemis CHETATE

Frontiers in Energy 2016, Volume 10, Issue 2,   Pages 176-191 doi: 10.1007/s11708-015-0386-2

Abstract: Today, induction machines are playing, thanks to their robustness, an important role in world industries. Although they are quite reliable, they have become the target of various types of defects. Thus, for a long time, many research laboratories have been focusing their works on the theme of diagnosis in order to find the most efficient technique to predict a fault in an early stage and to avoid an unplanned stopping in the chain of production and costs ensuing. In this paper, an approach called Park’s vector product approach (PVPA) was proposed which was endowed with a dominant sensitivity in the case in which there would be rotor or stator faults. To show its high sensitivity, it was compared with the classical methods such as motor current signature analysis (MCSA) and techniques studied in recent publications such as motor square current signature analysis (MSCSA), Park’s vector square modulus (PVSM) and Park-Hilbert (P-H) (PVSM ). The proposed technique was based on three main steps. First, the three-phase currents of the induction motor led to a Park’s vector. Secondly, the proposed PVPA was calculated to show the distinguishing spectral signatures of each default and specific frequencies. Finally, simulation and experimental results were presented to confirm the theoretical assumptions.

New method to determine optimum impedance of fault current limiters for symmetrical and/or asymmetrical faults in power systems None

Mahmoud MODARESI, Hamid LESANI

Frontiers of Information Technology & Electronic Engineering 2018, Volume 19, Issue 2,   Pages 297-307 doi: 10.1631/FITEE.1601689

Abstract: To select the type and value of the impedance of fault current limiters (FCLs) for power network designers, we introduce a new method to calculate the optimum value of FCL impedance depending on its position in the network. Due to the complexity of its impedance, the costs of both real and imaginary parts of FCL impedance are considered. The optimization of FCL impedance is based on a goal function that maximizes the reduction of the fault current while minimizing the costs. While the position of FCL in the network has an effect on the calculation of the optimum impedance value, the method for selecting FCL location is not the focus of this study. The proposed method for optimizing FCL impedance can be used for every network that has symmetrical and/or asymmetrical faults. We use a 14-bus IEEE network as an example to explain the process. The optimum FCL impedance used in this network is calculated by considering the vast range of costs for both real and imaginary parts of FCL impedance.

Research on the equivalent circuit parameter of single linear induction motor

Xu Wei,Sun Guangsheng

Strategic Study of CAE 2008, Volume 10, Issue 8,   Pages 76-80

Abstract:

The SLIM parameter has clear error to its real value on the base of the RIM parameter measurement method because it has larger air gap and edge effect. This paper proposes a new scheme suited for SLIM parameter detection. It only needs input total power, phase voltage, phase current, frequency, and then computes primary resistance, primary leakage induction, secondary resistance, secondary leakage induction, air induction and iron loss resistance. The performance analysis of SLIM indicates that this method is very effective and valuable.
